Police in Ondo State have successfully rescued Pastor Ayodeji Akesinro, a he health worker with the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, who was abducted by gunmen from his residence in Upenme, Owo Local Government Area, on Thursday evening.
According to the state police spokesperson, SP Ayanlade Olayinka, the victim was freed unhurt after security operatives engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle.
"Mr. Ayodeji Adebayo Akesinro, who was kidnapped on Thursday, 28th August 2025, was successfully rescued following a coordinated operation,” Olayinka said in a statement.
Swift Police Response
Upon receiving the distress report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, directed that the victim must be rescued “at all cost.” Acting on the order, the Owo Area Command, in collaboration with divisional officers, tactical operatives, and the Upenme Vigilante Group, launched a massive joint operation.
The team relied on credible intelligence and embarked on an intensive bush combing exercise that lasted through Thursday night into Friday. The effort paid off when the kidnappers were confronted and forced to abandon the victim after a gun battle.
Victim Safe, No Ransom Paid
Pastor Akesinro was immediately taken to FMC Owo for medical checks before being reunited with his family. No ransom was paid for his release.
Olayinka commended the bravery of the police officers and vigilante members, emphasizing that their resilience and sacrifice ensured the operation’s success.
"The Command will not rest on its oars but will continue to collaborate with state and non-state actors to guarantee the safety of all law-abiding citizens,” he assured.
